Performance opportunities are available for principal, secondary, chorus and cameo roles! No previous acting experience is required – all are welcome!

Director Kelly Thornton’s credits include The List at Nightwood, That Face at Nightwood (starring legendary Canadian film/TV/theatre actor Sonja Smits), Comedy of Errors at the Canadian Stage Company, The Danish Play at Nightwood/National Arts Centre / Magnetic North Festival, among others.

Director Christine Brubaker is an award-winning actor, director, teacher and musician.  As an actor she has performed nationally and internationally with many award-winning companies and productions such as Fear of Flight (Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland) and The Danish Play (Nightwood Theatre). Christine has been nominated for 5 Dora Mavor Moore Awards and won for Best Performance for Eric Woolfe’s The Babysitter

Much Ado About Nothing

Much Ado About Nothing is a comedy about two pairs of lovers, Benedick and Beatrice, and Claudio and Hero. Benedick and Beatrice are engaged in a “merry war”; they proclaim their scorn for love, marriage, and each other. In contrast, Claudio and Hero are sweet young people who are rendered practically speechless by their love for one another. By means of gossip, rumour, and overhearing, Benedick and Beatrice are tricked into confessing their love for each other, and Claudio is tricked into rejecting Hero at the altar. However, Dogberry, a Constable, discovers the evil trickery of the villain, the bastard Don John. In the end, Don John is captured and everyone else joins in a dance celebrating the marriages of the two couples.

What does the Audition Involve?
It’s easy. You will be given a choice between four short monologues (from Much Ado About Nothing). Monologues, character descriptions and full script are posted at the bottom of this page. Though you do not have to memorize the passage for the audition, we recommend you review and familiarize yourself with the text. Your audition will take approximately 10 minutes from start to finish. Please note that we will be changing some of the male characters to female, for example the Leonato will be Leonata!

What will Rehearsals Involve?

Cameos will be called as required with more commitment closer to the production dates.  Schedules will be posted a minimum of 2 weeks in advance, and we will be able to work around most schedules and conflicts.
