Nightwood Theatre is proud to participate in the Ontario Arts Council Theatre Creator’s Reserve program. As a third party recommender, we are able to allocate funds based on merit of project and subject to final approval at the council level. As a recommender we adhere to the priority of our mandate, that is, we recommend women playwrights, however, we do not necessarily require a focus on women’s stories.

Criteria we are interested in when selecting playwrights includes:

    playwright’s craft
interest in content, plot and theme
stage of the artist and potential of project (two tiered – emerging and established)
clarity of artist’s goals as determined in application
    diversity

Please include the following Support Material:

Script (Full or Work in progress)
    A synopsis
A project description outlining what the artist hopes to achieve with this phase of funding as well as the overall vision for the project.
    Resume

Dollar amounts will be recommended by the advisory, determined by the scope of the project, the levels of the artist (emerging or established) and the level of their needs (ie. a seed grant for a play in the early “idea” stage vs. sustenance for a playwright for three months for a more advanced play in development). Requests can be for $1000-$5000.

The program runs from August 15, 2008 to February 27, 2009 but projects will not be reviewed until our submission deadline. Application packages can be downloaded from the OAC website. Creators should include a stamped self addressed envelope to receive notice on the success of their application.

Submission Deadline: February 2, 2009
