ABOUT NIGHTWOOD THEATRE

Nightwood Theatre is a non-profit theatre company based in Toronto. As Canada’s foremost feminist theatre, Nightwood Theatre is driven by artistic excellence, advocacy, and the training and development of artists that have experienced gender oppression – this includes but is not limited to trans and cis women, non-binary, and Two-Spirit folks.

Founded in 1979, Nightwood Theatre has created and produced award-winning plays, which have won Dora Mavor Moore, Chalmers, Trillium and Governor General’s Awards. Each season, we present several full productions in Toronto’s most beloved mid-sized theatre venues, as well as producing our annual Groundswell Festival of new works. We provide training and support to next generation artists, recognizing that those critical years after theatre training are the times that shape the theatre artist one becomes. For forty years we’ve been populating our industry with formidable talent and creating intersectional spaces that place our values – provocation, empowerment, feminism, inclusivity, integrity, opportunity, and respect – at the centre of all we do.

Vaccination Certificates

All participants must provide proof of full vaccination before entering the rehearsal hall or performance venue.

The Lawyer Show remains Nightwood’s main annual fundraiser, and in this especially difficult time for the theatre industry, we are eager for the opportunity to raise some funds for Canada’s flagship feminist theatre company. A Lawyer Show 2022 Sponsorship Package will be available to share with you in December! If you can approach any prospects to help us secure Sponsorship or an Ad Sale in the e-program, please let me know by e-mailing erika@nightwoodtheatre.net. In due course, we will also be on the lookout for prizes for the Silent Auction.

“When I tell people how wonderful my life is, a part of me deep inside is screaming “Explain about the Lawyer Show!” But even as I try, I fail to really explain what it is, because some things cannot be explained. Some things must be experienced…”
