The Lawyer Show is Nightwood’s main annual fundraiser. Every year, supported by a team of directors, designers and vocal coaches, over 30 members of the legal community rehearse for three months to be able to stage an exhilarating, entertaining, professionally led production.

Since the Lawyer Show’s inception in 2010, some 300 legal professionals have appeared in 13 shows to raise more than $1,145,000 in support of Nightwood.

This season we invite you to join us for the 2023 Lawyer Show, Urinetown, The Musical a wildly funny musical satire, June 1 to 3, 2023  at the Jane Mallett Theatre in The St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts.

URINETOWN, The Musical is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, environmental collapse, privatization of natural resources, bureaucracy, municipal politics, and musical theatre itself!

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he’s had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!

Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, URINETOWN is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, URINETOWN catapults the “comedic romp” into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter.

URINETOWN, The Musical is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also provided by MTI. www.mtishows.com
