Creatyx 3.0 is our popular online writing room. Offering an 8 week structured program to craft (or continue to craft) your theatrical work, we hope to provide a gentle, structured and accountable space for creation and community building. Women and gender-expansive creators at any experience level are welcome to join.

Creatryx is created and facilitated by guest artists along with Nightwood Team members. Sessions are held over Zoom. Sessions will consist of creation time, knowledge sharing about creation and sharing in small groups.

There are typically 18 spots available. Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis with at least 10 spots reserved for women and gender-expansive creators from *Equity-owed groups.

Creatryx 3.0 completed the 2025 cohort on February 26, 2025.
Details for 2026 applications will be announced soon – sign up for our Artist List newsletter to be the first to hear!

Access Needs
Everyone has access needs. These are the structures in place that allow each person to participate with comfort, balancing the needs of the individual with the goals of the group.

Nightwood can offer:
– A relaxed online space
– ASL/English interpretation
– AI Captions
– Other options as we are able

Applicants can identify their access needs in the sign-up form, which can be viewed by clicking the yellow button at the bottom of the page.

Affinity Groups
Affinity groups are spaces organized by an aspect of a person’s identity. Nightwood recognizes that these groups can facilitate deeper engagement and connection due to feelings of greater emotional safety and understanding. Affinity groups could be organized by race, gender identity, ability, age, class or other aspects of identity. If you would like to be a part of an affinity group, you will have the opportunity to share this information in the form. If there is enough interest, Nightwood will create an affinity group.

Previous Participant Feedback

“As someone living in a community with little professional theatre/playwriting activity, Creatryx helped me connect to other people who are serious about their craft and receive feedback from knowledgeable facilitators, something I wouldn’t have received otherwise. The fact that the eligibility requirements to participate were low-barrier, including not asking for a CV and using a pay-what-you-can model, kept the doors open in an equitable way – I didn’t feel excluded, or that applying was an insurmountable endeavour. This experience has encouraged me to keep writing and honing my craft.”

“Nightwood’s Creatryx program is unique in this city because it welcomes playwrights where they are. They do not throw up barriers based on age or economics. As a woman returning to my craft after an extended break to have and take care of children, I felt very vulnerable. Nightwood is the only company that made me feel welcome, that made me feel my experience is still relevant, that my work is still important. Creatryx is a wonderful and unique workshop that has given me a bridge back to my profession . By creating this program, and making it financially accessible for me, I feel Nightwood has offered an integral reentry point to my professional development.”

“Nightwood Creatryx Unit was the best combination of dedicated work, joyous enthusiasm, and constructive feedback possible. It allowed space and support to play and expand in exciting ways. My work took a wonderful leap forward.”
