A Fond Farewell to Beth Brown

After eight seasons as Nightwood’s invaluable Managing Director, Beth Brown is moving on to a new adventure as the Executive Director at Soundstreams at the top of November. Business Manager and Artistic Associate, the wonderful Naz Afsahi, will be stepping in as Interim Managing Director while we venture on our search for Nightwood’s co-leader.

Reflecting on the past eight years, Beth shared, “I have really treasured my time at Nightwood and am grateful for the experience of working with the staff, board and the many other people who have supported, created and advised on our productions and other activities. My time at Nightwood has been particularly inspiring as a result of having been able to work with two formidable Artistic Directors, Kelly Thornton and Andrea Donaldson. The leadership and vision of these two extraordinary people inspired me to reach new heights. I will miss the fabulous team at Nightwood, who have proven over the past years that anything is possible, and it can be successfully accomplished while prioritizing care in all that we do. I know Nightwood will continue to grow and have a positive impact on the community moving forward and I look forward to seeing everyone again soon at a Nightwood show.”

Nightwood’s Artistic Director Andrea Donaldson shared, “Beth has shown tremendous dedication, integrity and unflappability throughout her eight seasons at Nightwood, and leaves the company in a place of strength, resilience and readiness. I am honoured to have had her by my side and in this circle, working to champion Nightwood’s values, as well as passing on an incredible legacy of feminist work practices for our staff and artists as well as generations to come. We wish her all the very best as she continues to make her indelible mark on live performance.”

Words do not suffice, Beth! From all of us at Nightwood, thank you, we will miss you, and congratulations on your next big thing!
