For our 46th year as Canada’s preeminent feminist theatre company, we have curated an electric lineup that bravely and playfully examine politics, persistence, and progress. This season offers two stellar productions from creative collaboration with Obsidian Theatre, Soulpepper Theatre, and Tarragon Theatre, and our 40th anniversary edition of the Groundswell Festival.
Our first production is Enormity, Girl and the Earthquake in Her Lungs, a stunning new work developed in Write from the Hip by Chelsea Woolley, marking a 10-year collaboration for celebrated artists Chelsea Woolley (playwright) and Andrea Donaldson (director). The piece is a lush, humorous, explosive piece with an ensemble of seven.
Our second production, How to Catch Creation by Christina Anderson, is a gorgeous, life affirming play directed by Mumbi Tindyebwa Otu, and is part of our longstanding relationship with Obsidian Theatre and follows our exceptional partnership with Soulpepper last season.
The 2025-2026 season will also mark our first full season at the Nancy & Ed Jackman Performance Centre (877 Yonge St.), our beautiful new venue which opened in March 2025 with our collaborators at Tapestry Opera. We are thrilled to be launching our Enormity, our first show of the season at our new space in September.
Nightwood is boldly stepping into our new home and our new season with more drive than ever to present exceptional feminist theatre. Thank you to our loyal champions who support us in delivering our vital mission to platform the incredible women and gender expansive artists in this city!
